Before anyone panics, I haven’t given up on Cold, Lost and Left with Sal. I’m still going to continue to make it. It’s just that I’m working on a few projects at the minute, that take priority over that comic strip. So, I can’t bring it to you guys, as quickly (without the strip losing quality, of course).
Nevertheless, I still needed something just as fun to fill its slot, until I have the next chapter finished. Therefore, I bring to you Muddled. A mini comic strip that is a comical yet darker (only at times), take on the “little people inside your head” concept, used in such things as The Numskulls, Meet Dave, Herman’s Head and Inside Out.
What I mean by this is, that the characters in this strip will each represent an emotion/frame of mind. However, as I want it to be more realistic and set in the mind of an adult, there will be a lot more characters and it’ll be slightly more complex (still plan on making it fun, though).
Hope you enjoy and before I forget, this Comic Strip reads left to right.
A little heads up, due to this heatwave and lack of rain the mountains around where I live keep catching fire (one is alight as I write this post and one was on fire last night. It’s pretty much looks like the apocalypse is happening here right now). So, if my blog goes quiet, it’s because I’ve been made relocate or I’ve been cremated.
I’m surrounded by mountains on every side, so being made relocate is very likely. Apologies in advance, if I miss any of your posts because of this.
A short while ago, I mentioned that my eldest Niece discovered anime. Making me both very proud and a little scared, because she loves to wind-up and is hell-bent on being annoying anime style. Long story short, she now uses anime related music to wake me up at silly o’clock in the morning (before 6am), to talk about or watch anime and anime related stuff with her.
But before anyone thinks my niece is just incredibly disrespectful. I was still a child when my niece was born and shared part of my childhood with her. So, we have more of a sister-like relationship and she is more like my annoying little sister, than my niece. Also, it’s awesome to share a common interest with her (I just wish she didn’t wake me up so early. Then again, I’m probably lazy and could do with waking up earlier).
Back on track, I thought it would make a fun post, if I rated the effectiveness of my early morning anime wake up calls. So, with that explained, let’s begin.
Lucky Star- Motteke Sailor Fuku:
If you fancy waking up in a state of confusion, wondering what the fudge is going on. This is the alarm clock for you. It will undoubtedly have you springing up in your bed, like Count Dracula in his coffin. However, if like me you struggle to find your words, just after being torn from the shores of Dreamland. You will most likely find yourself uttering random words, as you try to work out where the sound is coming from, in your confused state.
Death Note- What’s up, people?!:
This is probably the most effective alarm you could ever have, so effective in fact that it’ll have you jump yourself awake, in fear and fall out of bed. However, it may actually be a little to good at scaring you awake and may cause you to suffer a massive heart attack, shortly after waking (ironic considering it’s from Death Note). Therefore, I would not recommend using this as your alarm.
Rating: 15/10 with the chance of death.
Attack on Titian- Guren no Yumiya:
Have you ever wanted to wake up feeling like you might have to fight a gang giant happy naked people, at any moment or like you might get kick in the face by a really attractive, but kind of small and grumpy man, at some point in the day? Well, this is definitely an alarm for you. All in all, it pretty darn good at getting you out of your scratcher.
I know, I know this isn’t anime music, it’s K-pop. But I guess, my niece wanted to mix things up a little and throw some K-pop in there. As for it’s effectiveness as an alarm, it’s just too gentle. It didn’t even make me flicker an eyelid. I just heard it and laid there with my eyes still shut, enjoying some BTS, then went back to sleep.
Off topic; Glob RM voice! He has this Californian/L.A. accent and gosh darn it, it’s just so smooth and dreamy. It literally stops you in your track. Even if you’re not into K-pop, I would highly recommend just listening to RM talk. It’s amazing. (Hmmm, I wonder if RM’s voice would make a better alarm? What? Too creepy?)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-Yui (Again):
Need that little extra boost to get out of bed in the morning? If so, why not try this alarm on for size. The song itself is incredible (one of my favourite openings), but because of its instrumentals and beat, it makes a brilliant alarm. The intro alone is enough to wake even the deepest sleeper. Not to mention, it’s a bit of a good mood song and singing along, is almost irresistible.
Pokémon- Gotta Catch Em All!:
Fancy waking up feeling like a king, like your day is going to be one amazing adventure and like the world is your oyster. Of course, you do. If you have to leave that wonderful place we call bed, you might as well feel great doing it. That’s why I would highly recommend this song for your alarm. Its intro is loud enough to rise you from your slumber and the rest of the song is so upbeat, it’ll make you want to get out of bed and have an amazing day.
We’ve made it to the end of my anime alarm ratings. Hope you’ve had fun and maybe found you’re new morning alarm music. If you, have also found yourself in the presence of a young anime sadist or can think of any anime openings, that would make a good alarm, let me know in the comments below.
As always, Thanks for reading. I’m off now to get some sleep, before I’m woke up again by the beautiful screams of “What’s up, people?!” (Death Note).
There was still quite a bit of Gouache paint to be used up, so I thought I might as well paint some more of my flower doodles. It would be a crying shame to let good paint go to waste or to let it explode all over the cupboards, again.
This time I went with the flowery doodle tree, that I probably drew after drinking too much coffee (I draw the weirdest things, when on a caffeine buzz). Just a little warning, I was in a bit of a mood when painting the background so it turned out a little strange. But not to worry, nearly everyone here is in a bit of a mood because of this second heatwave we’re experiencing.
We usually don’t get really hot weather like this here, so most aren’t use to the heat and can’t handle it that well. To be frank at this point, most of us are feeling completely bucked, rather grumpy and cursing global warming (also not to mention, a little sunburnt).
As you can see, I was so moody that I wasn’t even going to entertain, staying in the lines. Mainly because unlike water colours, Gouache paint is surprisingly forgiving. So, it really doesn’t matter that much, if you go over the lines. You can always just paint over it and blend it in.
As for the colour choice. Moody me apparently likes to be dramatic with colour.
So here we have it, the finished piece. Thankfully, after being left to dry for a few days, the background lightened up a bit and doesn’t look as morbid now.
Hope you’ve enjoyed the creation of the Flowery Doodle Tree. Thanks for reading.
But before a head off to melt a little more on this heat. I’d like to announce that I created an Instagram account for this blog a wee while ago, so if you like to see more of what I get up to, you can follow me over on Instagram.
Another year has passed and I must again add 1 to my age and try to remember it. That’s right, it was my Birthday this month and to be honest I’m feeling rather old. I’m getting a little too close to 30, for my liking. But on the bright side, at least my hair hasn’t turned grey (Glob, has it had so many reasons to turn grey).
Last year I did a special bucket list post and I kind of wanted to keep the special B-day post thing going. So, I wrecked my brain for ideas and thought to myself, “what could I possibly write about. I can’t do a what I’ve learnt in over a quarter of a century post or an advice post. I’m still trying to work this world out.” Then something occurred to me. Apart from things like family, having a roof over me head and food in my belly, it’s really the silly little things in life, that keeps me happy. Screw bags loads of money and a big house, if someone came and took away the silly little things, living would quickly become very miserable.
So, on that point I thought it would nice to share with you guys the silly things, that make me happy and that life wouldn’t be the same without.
1. The first cup of coffee of the day- Glob, words cannot express the incredible feeling of the first cup of coffee of the day. Maybe it’s just because I’m addicted to caffeine but fudge it’s a great feeling. It just makes facing the world seem that little less daunting and cures my serious case of morning grumpys and wanting the world to bugger off.
2. Dogs- I’m just going to say it; the world would be sh*te without dogs. They’re just these little happy creatures, that have this magical ability to instantly cheer people up. They don’t even have to try at it. By just being a dog and doing doggy things, they lift people’s mood and make them feel happy. Not to mention dog cuddles are the best.
3. Messing with paint- There’s just nothing more relaxing than messing and spreading paint around a page. I might not create anything I’d be willing to share on this blog or with anyone else, but the feeling of peace and contentment I get from it, is enough for me.
4. Anime- I’ve often thought of creating a post about why I love anime, but never got around to it. Anyway, the reason it’s made it onto my list is that without anime, I’d be an incredibly lost little soul. I know it’s silly (it’s made it onto a silly things list, so of course it’s silly), but anime is one of the very few things that can distract my catastrophizing brain and allow me to relax. When watching anime, I genuinely feel happy. I’d fall into the bottomless pit of misery without it.
5. Beautiful Anime Men and the Fan Art- Hmmm…. Yeah, the less said about this, the better. The personalities, the fan art, the otome games, the eye-candy, it’s all pretty amazing. I could possibly be that sort of anime fan but screw it, I’m only human.
6. Chocolate- In all seriousness, I don’t think I could cope without chocolate. It’s my little mood booster and without it, I probably would have died of sadness by now.
7. The armchair in front of the fire- It’s my safe zone. When I’m sitting in my armchair like a king, the world could go get sucked into a black-hole, for all I care. The fact it’s right next to the fire, just makes it all the sweeter.
8. Wandering Aimlessly Around the Woods- Spending a few hours (or a good part of the day), just walking in the silence of the woods, with only the odd sound of wildlife. With a dog or two for company/safety, not really caring where you’ll walking, too, is pretty darn relaxing and peaceful. Nothing clears your head like it.
9. Weird Stuff- Can’t get enough of the weird stuff. It’s just so fascinating. Weird animals, weird anime, movies, books, psychology and unusual people (the best type of people, in my opinion). There’s just so much that can be learnt from it. The world would be so very dull without weird stuff.10. Going for drives in the car- Okay, I’m beginning to see why my friend says, I’m like a wee lovable Likes going for walks, sitting by the fire, going in the car, likes having my hair pet (but pretends not too) and is easily excited. Yeah, that sounds like I’m a puppy alright. But hey at least I’m a lovable one. Besides I do all my best singing to the radio, in the car.
Thanks for reading the 10 silly things that life just wouldn’t be the same without. Hope you’ve enjoyed it and if you have any silly things that life wouldn’t be the same without, feel free to share them in the comments below.
I’m off now, to play frisbee and chase a cat.
I have some really exciting news to share with you guys. A short while ago, Anjani over at My Utopia asked me to Collab on a comic strip and turn one of their stories into a comic (Anjani stories are really good, I would highly recommend checking them out). An art type Collab is something I’ve been dying to do for a while now, so I was thrilled when Anjani asked me.
Both of us have been working really hard creating character designs for the comic strip and Anjani had the great idea of taking a moment to tell you guys all about it and introduce the characters, that will appear in this comic strip. Anyway, I’ll let Anjani tell you.
Well if you are following me for a long time you can see that I am uploading stories which are written by me. At first I thought of making a manga but I am very bad at drawings ( Well I am practicing it though ) even though there are no pics I tried to write them like manga ( I hope you get it ). So I am following a blog called thethingsiveseen which is run by this amazing person Kelly who writes amazing stuff. You should definitely check it out.
So Kelly even does comic strips in her blog and I really like them, so I thought why not I ask her to do comic strips for my story and guess what she agreed to it and I felt so happy for it Thank you so much Kelly and we decided to turn Finding my own way which…

As surprising as it may seem, when I’m not doodling dinosaurs and stick people for my own amusement, I doodle flowers. After discovering that half of my tubes of Gouache paint exploded inside the cupboard (it was like paint grenade went off in there), because of the recent heatwave. I decided to go through my book of doodles and use up the remaining paint, before I have to clean up anymore sticky rainbow coloured messes.
There’s quite a lot of flower doodles in my book, but this is the one I chose. It’s a pretty simple drawing of circles and spikes, but I thought I could turn it into something nice. I used a really light pencil, so I lined it with paint to make it easier for you guys to see.
People never really talk about how long it takes them to complete a painting. Maybe there’s some sort of strange taboo or fear of painting envy surrounding it, but I can’t see the harm in it. So, this the doodle after the first painting session. It probably doesn’t look it, but this is about 2 hours of painting. I have no idea whether that’s fast or really slow, but I’ve seen people spend even longer than that in a session.
It only took me 2 painting sessions to turn the doodle into a pretty painting. The second session did take a little longer, because of the details on the petals. However overall, that’s still a pretty short length of time spent completing a painting (my acrylic paintings usually take days to complete). The feeling of satisfaction you get after finishing and looking at the end product, so completely worth the time and effort put into the painting.
Gouache paint is really pigmented and fun to experiment with, but considering its price, its smell (it kind of smells funky) and the fact it doesn’t hold up in heat, I don’t think I would get it again.
Thanks for reading and hope you liked the flower.
We’ve gotten pretty far with this comic strip. We’re on chapter 6 already. I hope you guys are enjoying reading Cold, Lost and Left with Sal, as much as I enjoy creating it (Glob, I love drawing cartoon style).
Chapter 6: Gone fishing.
This Comic Strip reads left to right
Hope you’ve enjoyed Chapter 6 and as always, Thanks for reading.
I’ve thankfully picked up the pace with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The threat of my oldest niece spoiling it on me, was enough for me to get my heinie in gear and get a move on with this series. My oldest niece spoiling Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood would definitely be more annoying, than her reminding me that she’s taller than me. Anyway, before I start rambling, I’ll give you a quick summary of what has happened in part 4.
Ed was impaled and nearly died, while Al struggled to remain conscious. That kick-ass team of Homunculus butt whoopers I was wishing for, happened (it was so awesome). We learnt the full story of Van Hohenheim past and that Papa Humpy (Father) is just a wrinkly old leather handbag and used to live in a flask. We also discovered that Envy was nothing more than a gross, unkillable talking leech.
Everyone eventually headed to central, where my opinion of Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong deteriorated. When she brutally assaulted her brother Alex the sparkly He-Man, then kicked him out of his home and kept having stabs at his sensitive personality. The saddest thing is, Alex saves her from being squashed by Sloth.
Kimblee’s head was nearly bitten of by a lion-man (it was great) and to my great pleasure, he died when he was eaten by Pride (Glob, I hated Kimblee so much). Pride also committed cannibalism and ate Gluttony and Colonel Mustang has finally made his move to take over central. Unfortunately, an army of unkillable zombies was released in central, putting a bit of a dampener on everyone’s plans.
Before we go any further in this review, I’m just going to put my hands up and confess that I absolutely love this anime. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has literally blown its way into my top 5 anime series. It’s the best darn anime I’ve watched in ages and I’ve not been this excited about an anime in a very long time. Now that I’ve gotten my fangirling out of the way, on with the review.
Part 4 has had all the same great aspects as the 3 previous parts, however two things part 4 has made me aware of is, how great character development and design is in this anime. Character development wise, you really go on a journey with the characters. Van Hohenheim for example, I went from thinking he was a bit of a-hole for leaving his children, to feeling sorry for the guy, to falling in love with his character. His whole background story completely changes how you see Van Hohenheim, adding layers to his character and also makes you develop some empathy for the guy. Ed and Al’s, character development is almost as good as Van Hohenheim. They go from miserable little boys missing their Mummy, to being deeply remorseful and wanting their bodies back at all cost, to wanting to save everyone even if that means not getting back their bodies. Ed and Al really mature throughout the series. Ed even grows a little and looks less boy-like.
The character design in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is something I’ve been really enjoying. The diversity in how characters are drawn is just amazing and works really well together. For example, you have your very masculine sharply drawn characters like Van Hohenheim, the Chimeras, Scar, Alex and King Bradley. The more rounded softly drawn characters like Ed, Winry, May Chang, Pride, Colonel Mustang and Hawkeye. Then, the in-betweens like Ling Yao, Yoki, Kimblee and Hughes and also the extremely animated exaggerated characters like Sloth and Gluttony. There is just so many different drawing styles/character designs going on in this anime, which for me has been a breath of fresh air. Visually for an anime, there’s nothing worse than characters all looking the same, just with different hair styles or different eye and hair colours. It’s like they’ve been made with a cookie cutter or something.
The only real downside to this anime is that it literally takes the characters ages to do anything. For instance, they said promise day was going to happen the next day and 4 episodes later, promise day still didn’t happen. Also, it took them 11 episodes to go to central to kick Papa Humpy’s butt and his butt still hasn’t been kicked. Like seriously I love this anime, but they’re taking the biscuit a bit with that. If I was in the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood universe, I would have given Papa Humpy a good butt whooping by now and be sitting down to a nice cup of Tea with Alex and Van Hohenheim. In saying that however, this is an annoying trope of this type of anime, so I guess I can’t be too harsh on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Overall, part 4 has been as excellent as the previous 3 parts. After, over 50 episodes it still has my attention firmly captured and still has me dying for more. It does have that “takes ages to do anything” trope, but considering how entertaining this anime is, you can kind of let that slide. As this is the best anime series I’ve seen in a very long time, I would highly recommend watching it if you haven’t seen it already.
Now for the part I really enjoy, trying to predict how this anime will end. As these are the last predictions I will make. I’m limiting myself to 5 new predictions and a death list, to make them a little more focused. So far, I made 13½ correct predictions, so I’m confident I’ll get at least one right.
My Final Predictions are:
-The zombies, I don’t think anyone is be able to control them. So, they’ll most likely escape into the city, where Briggs’s men will get into an epic fight with them. But as the zombies are unkillable, I predict that Dr Marcoh’s will turn up last minute, to use his Philosopher’s Stone destroying alchemy on them. Either that or they’ll have to trick Envy into absorbing them all.
-Papa Humpy can’t survive outside has container. But from the look of him, his container has seen better day and is starting to age/deteriorate. Therefore, I think Papa Humpy isn’t after an immortal army (he already has that), but is going use transmutation as a way to get a new container or fix/improve the one he has. To be honest, it this point in the anime that’s the only thing he could gain from transmutation. He already controls everything and has his army, so it’s the only thing that would make sense.
– Van Hohenheim and Papa Humpy are linked, so I think in order to kill Papa Humpy, Van Hohenheim is going to have to die, too (like Voldemort in Harry Potter).
– Truth (the shadow thing in the portal) will escape from the portal and Ed and Al will have to fight it, too.
– Hawkeye’s and Scar’s tattoos are going to have to come to play, at some point (otherwise why have them in the anime). Therefore, I predict that they will be the key to defeating Papa Humpy (or Truth if it escapes)
My Death list:
Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong
The Homunculus and Papa Humpy (they have to die for the anime to come to a satisfying end)
Van Hohenheim (there’s been a lot of red flags with his character. He seems like he wants to die, so if he isn’t killed in the final battle, he’ll probably find another way to die. Like using Dr Marcoh’s Philosopher’s Stone destroying alchemy or letting Ed and Al use him to get their bodies back).
There’s still a lot of my previous predictions in play, but as this post is already rather long and I don’t want to make it any longer on you guys, so I’ll leave them out.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this post and Thanks for reading.
I’ve seen this challenge done so many times and always wanted to try it for myself. But as usual, I didn’t have the confidence to give it a go. To tell the truth, I thought I wouldn’t be able to draw in different styles and would make a mess of the challenge. However, I’m trying a new approach, called self-belief and I’m now at least, giving the things I think I’m too rubbish to do, a go. So, without further delay I give to you, my attempt at the Drawing Style Challenge.
For anyone wondering what this challenge is about, it’s where you choose a selection of cartoon or animation styles and attempt to draw yourself in each style. I have chosen 6 styles and have used Gouache paint for the coloured drawing (because I need more practice with them). I’ve decided to be really creative with this challenge, so I hope you enjoy.
Tim Burton (Nel-Ward Scissorhands)
Edward Scissorhands is my favourite Tim Burton character, so for this style I went with drawing myself like Edward Scissorhands. While still including some of the trademarks of Tim Burton’s style. Hence, Nel-Ward Scissorhands was born.
Pokémon (Not quite right Charmander)
Why draw yourself as a human, when you can be an extremely cute fire-breathing pocket monster. I drew myself as a not quite right Charmander, because if I was a Pokémon I wouldn’t want to fight other Pokémon, to an inch of their life. I’d rather befriend the other Pokémon (hence why I drew the flower). I’d essentially be Olaf from frozen, in Charmander form.
Also, Charmander is my favourite starter Pokémon.
Adventure Time (Princess Blue)
As a style, I find Adventure Time very cute, creative and funny at times. I decided to keep in trend with the shows endless number of princesses and turned myself into Princess Blue. Also, humans in this show seem pretty plops, compared to the other characters. So, I wasn’t drawing myself as one of them.
I had a little trouble creating skin tone with the Gouache paint and couldn’t achieve that weird tone of most of the South Park characters. So, I ended up just settling with the usual paint combination, I’d use with watercolours. Other, then that little disaster I think I done an okay job of this style.
The Walking Dead Comic
Since the previous attempts went so well, I decided to challenge myself a little bit more. The Walking Dead Comic has some really cool art work and is something I really like. However, as I’ve learnt it’s a very hard style to draw in and all I’m going to say about this attempt is, I love how that sword handle turned out. Best darn sword handle, I’ve ever drawn.
We Bare Bears (Sun Bear)
Art style wise, I really like how We Bare Bear is drawn. For this style, I drew myself as a Sun Bear, because again why be human when you can be a cute bear. Also, I’ve recently learnt that sun bears are a rather short bears and are only around 5ft tall. I am also only around 5ft tall, so I can relate to the sun bear’s shortness.
This has been the most fun art challenges, I’ve taken part in so far and because of that, I’ve decided to make a part 2. I want to make sure this is still fun for you guys, too. So, I’m going to let you guys decide which styles I draw in part 2. All you have to do is let me know in the comments below, which cartoon, comic, manga, anime or animation style (or styles), you’d like to see me attempt next.
Thank you in advance to anyone taking part. I appreciate all your suggestions, very much.
As always, hope you’ve enjoyed this post and Thanks for reading.
