One liners

I love reading one liner challenge posts, they can really be hilarious at times. So, after being nominated for this challenge (quite a while ago), I thought it was time to give it a try myself. But before we get started, I’d like to thank POP CULTURE LITERARY for the nomination and apologise for taking so long to respond to this challenge. There’s a lot of cool and interesting stuff over at POP CULTURE LITERARY, so I’d recommend checking it out.

The Rules:

  • Accept and thank your challenger(s) by linking back to their post.
  • Make a post of one-sentence summaries and/or roasts of at least five books.
  • No spoilers! (I will try but no promises)
  • Link back to The Awkward Book Bloggerso she can see your post.
  • Challenge as many or as few people as you want!
  • Have fun!

Right so let’s begin! I read mostly non-fiction books which wouldn’t really work in this post, so I’ve also added five anime to the mix.

Books:

81UvcPHNEPLBlue Planet II– The Book that proves sea monsters really do exist.

alice1898Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland- An adventure where a girl falls down a hole, eats shrooms, drinks potions, ignores the rules of stranger danger and manages to really peeve off some psycho lady by painting her roses, basically some peoples’ Saturday night.

51M0okPhZoLBram Stoker Dracula You can’t help but read it in Dracula’s voice, bleh bleh bleh.

81AlqaFjyaLThe Twits- The book that taught me to seek revenge when I was a child, even if it involves using a swimming pools worth of glue and inducing the shrinks.

91j7w+EJXvLThe Miniaturist- A valuable lesson in not being creepy by making miniature dolls of random rich strangers and their home furnishings, because they’ll freak out, think you’re a witch, blame you for everything that goes wrong in their life and people will be thrown in the canal wearing a boulder necklace.

387145._SX1280_QL80_TTD_The Walking Dead Comic- Man awakens from a coma to find himself in a zombie apocalypse and decides to become a zombie slaying cowboy (Sort of like the TV show but better).

Anime:

1200x630bbDeath Note- A narcissistic psychopathic emo guy finds a note book that literally makes the pen mightier than the sword, which leads to him having a strange relationship with another very odd emo guy and they play cat and mouse then explore bondage.

1200x630bb (1)Black Butler-For the low, low price of one’s soul, you can have an extremely attractive demon ninja slave that will pretty much do anything for/to you (and I mean “anything”).

01e7eb6f5277ed21e158087e5422042cb10c227cr1-561-797v2_hqTokyo Ghoul- Boy gets turned into a half ghoul then sits around drinking coffee with other ghouls, being a hate-the-world and yaps about his life then decides to give cannibalism a go.

173941Durarara- An anime with a headless cat lady biker and where gang violence, knife crime and mob mentality are rampant, but for some reason no one has offed the snitch.

Lucy-Elfen-Lied-horror-anime-manga-37156938-500-375Elfen Lied- Where clothing and limbs are optional but bathing is a compulsory group activity.

Nominations:
At this point, I think nearly everyone has either already done this challenge or been nominated for it. Therefore, I nominate anyone who hasn’t already been nominated yet.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I had a lot of fun making it and…

As always, Thanks for reading!

The Frustration of The One Line Art Challenge

Every so often it’s nice to attempt one of these little drawing challenges you see posted all over the internet. It can be a lot of fun, watching others attempt to create art in strange and peculiar ways, then trying to create art in the same way yourself. In a kind of weird way, it can turn learning a new art skill into a really fun but challenging game (I’ll leave a little video below so you can see for yourself).

(This best attempt I’ve seen so far at The One Line Art Challenge. It’s so unbelievably awesome)

However, sometimes these challenges seem a lot more fun than they actually are and the results may not turn out as you’d like. The one line art challenge was one of those challenges, but as it’s only a bit of fun and we’re all friend here, I decided to still share my attempts at this challenge (WordPress is nice in that way). This challenge was a little more complicated than other challenges attempted on this blog, because it has a few very strict rules, which I’ll quickly explain before showing you my attempt.

Rules:

  • Your drawing must consist of only one continuous line
  • Once the tip of the pencil touches the page, it can’t be lifted until the drawing is finished.
  • No erasing, whatever marks you make on the paper stay.
  • No tagging in a friend to take over drawing when your hand gets sores (and it will get sore).

thumbnail_20181110_162712Hmm…. yeah it was so much harder than it seemed. I should probably explain this beautiful monstrosity you see before you. I started of drawing a Nightmare Before Christmas style snake, but kind of got a tiny bit frustrated with not being able to lift the pencil and went on a little rage scribble (little being an understatement). After unleashing my full wrath upon the page, I decided to turn my scribbles into a spiderweb and drew a wee happy spider.

Although the results won’t that great, I suppose if you look at things through the eyes of an optimist you could say it was somewhat successful. For one, I managed to complete the challenge without lifting my pencil of the page, so the drawing is one continuous line. Also, as the piece is a true expression of my frustration, in some peoples’ eyes it could be classed as real art. Maybe not good real art but real art all the same. Therefore, my attempt at this challenge ticks both the one line box and the art box, so technically speaking it was a successful attempt (glob, talk about flogging a dead horse).

So that was my attempt at the extremely difficult one line art challenge, hope you enjoyed this post and…
As always Thanks for reading.

The Drawing Style Challenge

I’ve seen this challenge done so many times and always wanted to try it for myself. But as usual, I didn’t have the confidence to give it a go. To tell the truth, I thought I wouldn’t be able to draw in different styles and would make a mess of the challenge. However, I’m trying a new approach, called self-belief and I’m now at least, giving the things I think I’m too rubbish to do, a go. So, without further delay I give to you, my attempt at the Drawing Style Challenge.

thumbnail_20180530_225246For anyone wondering what this challenge is about, it’s where you choose a selection of cartoon or animation styles and attempt to draw yourself in each style. I have chosen 6 styles and have used Gouache paint for the coloured drawing (because I need more practice with them). I’ve decided to be really creative with this challenge, so I hope you enjoy.

Tim Burton (Nel-Ward Scissorhands)

thumbnail_20180530_225515Edward Scissorhands is my favourite Tim Burton character, so for this style I went with drawing myself like Edward Scissorhands. While still including some of the trademarks of Tim Burton’s style. Hence, Nel-Ward Scissorhands was born.

Pokémon (Not quite right Charmander)

thumbnail_20180530_230037Why draw yourself as a human, when you can be an extremely cute fire-breathing pocket monster. I drew myself as a not quite right Charmander, because if I was a Pokémon I wouldn’t want to fight other Pokémon, to an inch of their life. I’d rather befriend the other Pokémon (hence why I drew the flower). I’d essentially be Olaf from frozen, in Charmander form.

thumbnail_20180530_225413Also, Charmander is my favourite starter Pokémon.

Adventure Time (Princess Blue)

thumbnail_20180530_230403As a style, I find Adventure Time very cute, creative and funny at times. I decided to keep in trend with the shows endless number of princesses and turned myself into Princess Blue. Also, humans in this show seem pretty plops, compared to the other characters. So, I wasn’t drawing myself as one of them.

South Park

thumbnail_20180530_231145I had a little trouble creating skin tone with the Gouache paint and couldn’t achieve that weird tone of most of the South Park characters. So, I ended up just settling with the usual paint combination, I’d use with watercolours. Other, then that little disaster I think I done an okay job of this style.

The Walking Dead Comic

thumbnail_20180530_232156Since the previous attempts went so well, I decided to challenge myself a little bit more. The Walking Dead Comic has some really cool art work and is something I really like. However, as I’ve learnt it’s a very hard style to draw in and all I’m going to say about this attempt is, I love how that sword handle turned out. Best darn sword handle, I’ve ever drawn.

We Bare Bears (Sun Bear)

thumbnail_20180530_233059Art style wise, I really like how We Bare Bear is drawn. For this style, I drew myself as a Sun Bear, because again why be human when you can be a cute bear. Also, I’ve recently learnt that sun bears are a rather short bears and are only around 5ft tall. I am also only around 5ft tall, so I can relate to the sun bear’s shortness.

This has been the most fun art challenges, I’ve taken part in so far and because of that, I’ve decided to make a part 2. I want to make sure this is still fun for you guys, too. So, I’m going to let you guys decide which styles I draw in part 2. All you have to do is let me know in the comments below, which cartoon, comic, manga, anime or animation style (or styles), you’d like to see me attempt next.
Thank you in advance to anyone taking part. I appreciate all your suggestions, very much.

As always, hope you’ve enjoyed this post and Thanks for reading.

Trying my Hand at Art Challenges

thumbnail_20171107_182800Have you ever watched something on YouTube and thought “that looks too fun, not to try?”

Well, that’s exactly how my latest disaster started. I watched YouTubers take on the finger-painting challenge and produce amazing paintings of fishys, mermaids and landscapes and naïvely thought, it would be fun to try the finger-painting challenge myself. I’m going to be honest with you guys here, I’m pretty such I’ve failed at this challenge.

Suspiciously, no one really shares their fails at these art challenges (makes you question, if they’ve had multiple attempts or how challenging the challenge is for them, in the first place). So, to break this perfectionist trend and show a genuine attempt at an art challenge, I will share with you my attempt at the finger-paint challenge.

thumbnail_20171107_151719There was some instant regret right about here. A pre-school child’s painting this fox, was not what I was going for. Fingers are so much harder to use than brushes.

thumbnail_20171107_154044
Yeah, adding more paint really didn’t help the situation. Apologies for the nightmare inducing eyes (My fox looks like he had a run in, with jeepers creepers).

thumbnail_20171107_182607

At this point I was finished murdering my fox with paint, so I decided to paint the background. I quickly learnt fingers can’t paint blocks of colour, so I smeared paint all over the place and hoped for the best.

thumbnail_20171108_120649

So, this is the finish piece. It might not be the best thing I’ve painted, but at least it’s an honest attempt at the finger-paint challenge.

(I should probably insult my own intelligence, before ending this post and mention that I wasn’t using lead paint or any other type of poisonous paint. I used non-toxic paint, so there’s very little chance of my hands dropping off and dying from paint related poisoning).

Always Drawing

There’s nothing more relaxing than drawing on a tablet, knowing there’s no mess to clean up after. Painting with virtual paintbrushes is just so satisfying. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get stuck in drawing with just your finger because the stylus isn’t the same and isn’t as fun as painting with your fingers.

This week, I’ve been shaking up my usually drawing technic and set myself a bit of a challenge. I’m rubbish at side views, so I set myself a goal to create a side view drawing, that is worthy of posting on my blog. It wasn’t easy and after a few failed attempts I managed to create this.

6d48d355-fcf6-46ec-a744-1d62c05d1decIt’s a representation of my 3-year-old niece and her personality. Don’t worry, I don’t think my niece is a demon child. She’s just a little girl, but she has a huge devilish personality. She’s hilarious. One minute she saying she a beautiful princess, next minute she’s trying to beat me up (Play fighting of course). She gets up to so much devilment and loves winding me up, playing little jokes on me and telling me little stories about her imaginary friend just to creep me out. She’s a little devil.

I showed her this drawing and she wasn’t pleased. She liked that she had a princess dress and pretty pink hair, but didn’t appreciate the horns. She made me draw another picture of her with her older sister, because this picture didn’t meet her high standards.

15193146-5ee4-4c4f-a9d6-438b83563cabThink I still caught my niece’s cheeky devilish personality, but I like the other drawing better. It’s just very like her. My niece likes this one better but. Probably because she doesn’t have horns and is with her big sister. It’s not a side view, but it got my niece’s approval, which is a better achievement.

86f3e4e5-0301-4880-bc24-2b893da2bb3d_1I felt bad, leaving my sister’s two boys out so I drew them too.
