Drawing BTS Chibi

thumbnail_20181220_114722After looking at a hell of a lot of BTS fan art, I decided to give the whole fan art thing a go and add my own wee twist to it. I love drawing chibi characters, so I drew all the members of BTS as chibi and tried my best to capture their likeness. Hope you enjoy!

thumbnail_20190108_191733This post would be a little on the short side if it ended here, so I’d like take this opportunity to add a personal touch to this post by telling you all how I got into K-pop. Considering how much anime openings I have in my playlists, it’s kind of surprising that I didn’t stumble upon K-pop on my own. Strangely, it was actually my niece that got me into K-pop. She asked me one day if I had ever listened to BTS and I said no. Which caused her little face to light up with delight and she very excitedly started showing me music and choreography videos of BTS on YouTube.

Love pink hair.

My honest first impression of BTS was “dang, they sure can dance and that colourful hair is so amazing. Not a 100% sure if I like the music but this is really entertaining.” About 3 songs later and after hearing the song, Blood, Sweat and Tears, BTS started to really grew on me and I was loving this little BTS jam session. Any uncertainty left me and I was 100% sure that I like this band.

Chibi J-Hope kind of looks a little possessed. Apologies for that.

After that, I was really curious about K-pop and went on a huge K-pop binge watch/listen. It was awesome and left my wondering, why it took me so long to realise how much fun K-pop is (honestly, I wish I listened to it sooner). From there I got sucked into the fandom and now even have a favourite member (bias) in certain groups (in BTS it was originally Suga, but then Jimin won me over, so now I have 2 bias). My appreciation for K-pop may be a little cringey at times, but its something I really enjoy.

Just a couple of buds holding hands.

Hope you enjoyed this post. If you did, I might make another post like this about anime. Anime is something I’ve loved since childhood, so that post would be considerably longer.

As always, Thanks for reading!

A Very Alternative Christmas Playlist

If by now you’ve grown sick of hearing all those disturbingly cheerful festive songs, you’re in luck. I’ve put together a little list of alternative festive tunes that are definitely a hell of a lot less played out than your regular festive song.

Bongo Cat- Christmas songs

Your normal festive tunes but with a twist. The twist being they’re sung by a band of adorable animated kitty cats. Both cute and cool as well as a lot more entertaining than the originals.

BTS- Christmas Day

If your going to listen to festive music, you might as well throw a little K-pop into the mix. I’m not a huge K-pop fan but I do have a bit of a soft spot for BTS, GOT7 and Amber liu, hence why this song made it into this list.

GOT7- Miracle

Okay, I may have down played my love of K-pop a little with that last song, but this song is too lovely and cute not to have it on this list. (My fav in GoT 7 is Jin-young. He constantly looks like he wants to punch the other members really hard and its rather amusing).

12 Days of Honkmas

Why sing about the 12 days of Christmas when you can sing about the 12 days of honkmas. These little Pikachu birds (Cockatiels I think they’re called) are so cute and funny. This festive song is bound to bring a smile to your face.

You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch

Not going to lie this is one of my favourite Christmas songs. This time of year, you can find me making a grand entrance into a room singing this song. There’s even a very dramatic interpretive dance to accompany this song. I know, it’s kind of childish but screw it. Sometimes you just have to act a little silly to relieve the stress of this time of year. Not to mention, its one hell of an effective way to fight boredom.

Hopefully by now you’ve gained a few more festive songs to add to your holiday playlist. Hope you all have a wonderful time over the holidays and

As always, Thanks for Reading!

Finds of the Week

This week has been kind of crazy, everywhere I turned someone wanted my help with something or was looking me to come somewhere in the car with them, to keep them company. Pretty sure at this point, I’ve travelled the length and breadth of the country. But sure, I’m not going to complain, it’s nice to feel useful and although it was a busy week it was also kind of fun.

Unfortunately, this has meant I haven’t had a great deal of time to work on stuff for this blog. So, instead of posting nothing this week, I’ve decided to take this opportunity to try something I’ve wanted to do on this blog for some time. This little venture is called “Finds of the Week” and will consist of some of the cool, interesting or just plain weird things, I’ve found on YouTube during the week.

So, without further ado I bring to you this week’s, Finds of the Week:

Finger dance: BTS- IDOL

This is kind of strange but one has to admit it is rather cool. I have no clue how these people are able to bend their hands like that, but it really impressive.

Chickenpella – Disney

Man plays songs with a rubber chicken, while people sing. Sad thing is this guy can play the rubber chicken better than I can play any instrument.

Tokyo Ghoul – Unravel (cover by Big Marvel)

For all the Tokyo Ghoul fans, I’ve included Big Marvel’s cover of Unravel I found this week. Here he plays the rubber pig and duck, as well as the rubber chicken. (Also, that person in the background staring at him, eating a sandwich is hilarious)

The Life of Death

A beautifully drawn short film about the sad life of death. It would be pretty awful if everything you touched died. I found this film quite a while ago, but found myself re-watching it this week so put it on the list.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN – Rewrite The Stars (#WITHOUTMUSIC parody)

Really didn’t want to overload this post with K-pop, so was only going to share Rewrite the Stars without music. However, the Fake Love without music was too funny not to share.

BTS – Fake Love (#WITHOUTMUSIC Parody)

If you’re really into K-pop, there’s also BTS- Idol without music (and a few other BTS songs) and BLACKPINK- Ddu-Du Ddu-Du without music. There both pretty strange but funny.

As you can tell this week’s YouTubeing was a little on the strange side (it can be a lot stranger). I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and if you’d like me to make more posts like this, let me know in the comments below.

As always, Thanks for reading.

Anime Torture- Early Morning Anime Alarms

A short while ago, I mentioned that my eldest Niece discovered anime. Making me both very proud and a little scared, because she loves to wind-up and is hell-bent on being annoying anime style. Long story short, she now uses anime related music to wake me up at silly o’clock in the morning (before 6am), to talk about or watch anime and anime related stuff with her.

But before anyone thinks my niece is just incredibly disrespectful. I was still a child when my niece was born and shared part of my childhood with her. So, we have more of a sister-like relationship and she is more like my annoying little sister, than my niece. Also, it’s awesome to share a common interest with her (I just wish she didn’t wake me up so early. Then again, I’m probably lazy and could do with waking up earlier).

Back on track, I thought it would make a fun post, if I rated the effectiveness of my early morning anime wake up calls. So, with that explained, let’s begin.

Lucky Star- Motteke Sailor Fuku:

If you fancy waking up in a state of confusion, wondering what the fudge is going on. This is the alarm clock for you. It will undoubtedly have you springing up in your bed, like Count Dracula in his coffin. However, if like me you struggle to find your words, just after being torn from the shores of Dreamland. You will most likely find yourself uttering random words, as you try to work out where the sound is coming from, in your confused state.
Rating: 8/10

Death Note- What’s up, people?!:

This is probably the most effective alarm you could ever have, so effective in fact that it’ll have you jump yourself awake, in fear and fall out of bed. However, it may actually be a little to good at scaring you awake and may cause you to suffer a massive heart attack, shortly after waking (ironic considering it’s from Death Note). Therefore, I would not recommend using this as your alarm.
Rating: 15/10 with the chance of death.

Attack on Titian- Guren no Yumiya:

Have you ever wanted to wake up feeling like you might have to fight a gang giant happy naked people, at any moment or like you might get kick in the face by a really attractive, but kind of small and grumpy man, at some point in the day? Well, this is definitely an alarm for you. All in all, it pretty darn good at getting you out of your scratcher.
Rating: 7/10

BTS-DNA:

I know, I know this isn’t anime music, it’s K-pop. But I guess, my niece wanted to mix things up a little and throw some K-pop in there. As for it’s effectiveness as an alarm, it’s just too gentle. It didn’t even make me flicker an eyelid. I just heard it and laid there with my eyes still shut, enjoying some BTS, then went back to sleep.
Rating: 3/10
Off topic; Glob RM voice! He has this Californian/L.A. accent and gosh darn it, it’s just so smooth and dreamy. It literally stops you in your track. Even if you’re not into K-pop, I would highly recommend just listening to RM talk. It’s amazing. (Hmmm, I wonder if RM’s voice would make a better alarm? What? Too creepy?)

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-Yui (Again):

Need that little extra boost to get out of bed in the morning? If so, why not try this alarm on for size. The song itself is incredible (one of my favourite openings), but because of its instrumentals and beat, it makes a brilliant alarm. The intro alone is enough to wake even the deepest sleeper. Not to mention, it’s a bit of a good mood song and singing along, is almost irresistible.
Rating: 9/10

Pokémon- Gotta Catch Em All!:

Fancy waking up feeling like a king, like your day is going to be one amazing adventure and like the world is your oyster. Of course, you do. If you have to leave that wonderful place we call bed, you might as well feel great doing it. That’s why I would highly recommend this song for your alarm. Its intro is loud enough to rise you from your slumber and the rest of the song is so upbeat, it’ll make you want to get out of bed and have an amazing day.
Rating: 10/10

We’ve made it to the end of my anime alarm ratings. Hope you’ve had fun and maybe found you’re new morning alarm music. If you, have also found yourself in the presence of a young anime sadist or can think of any anime openings, that would make a good alarm, let me know in the comments below.

As always, Thanks for reading. I’m off now to get some sleep, before I’m woke up again by the beautiful screams of “What’s up, people?!” (Death Note).

The Jungle Book (2016)

thumbnail_f256818e-292d-4bc9-9033-81e02c0306bbAs Disney films go, The Jungle Book has always been one of my favourites. Out of all the Disney movies I watched as a child (which was a lot. I was a 90’s kid), The Jungle Book had the best soundtrack (followed closely by Mulan) and would really get you up and singing along. It’s pretty hard to believe that anyone could resist singing along to The Bare Necessities.

Watching the live-action version of a childhood favourite has put me in very sentimental mood. So, I thought since I’m sitting here reminiscing about the days of The Rugrats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I might as well make this movie, this week’s review.

The storyline to the live-action film, is pretty similar to The Jungle Book (1967), I watched as a child. A baby boy (Mowgli) is left alone in the jungle and is raised by wolves. An old bigoted tiger (Shere Khan) shows up one day, notices Mowgli the man-cub and decides he doesn’t want any man-cubs in his jungle. So, demands the man-cub be given to him, so that he can kill him (Glob, that’s actually rather dark and twisted). Mowgli doesn’t want to endanger his wolf family, so sets out to return to the man village, escorted by his panther friend Bagheera. However, things do not go to plan and Mowgli ends up going on an exciting adventure through the jungle, meeting a range of eccentric animals on his journey.

thumbnail_3b0b1417-ea85-4d73-8fcc-d9fe415a14faThis film is very CGI, with only one non-CGI character (Mowgli). The rest of the characters are CGI animals, which in my opinion were done very well. Granted you could tell they were computerised, but they still looked really good and moved like the real animals (not like some films, were the animals move like robots). CGI King Louie, even managed to thoroughly creep me out and will forever haunt my dreams. He was like a terrifying ginger King Kong, that disturbingly wanted people’s red flower.

To be honest, I was surprised by how good this live-action Jungle Book was. It managed to capture the fun of the cartoon 1967 version, without making any of the characters seem too over the top. They even had a few of those great songs from the cartoon version, which was a very nice touch to the film. The Jungle Book without “The Bare Necessities” and “I wan’na be like you”, just wouldn’t have been the same and just wouldn’t have been as enjoyable.

thumbnail_9eb92bf9-5fff-4110-91af-10eb8367882cHowever, one thing I do have to say about this film is, it’s a hell of a lot darker than the 1967 version and has more action scenes. Although, in my opinion this just sets it apart from the other versions of The Jungle Book. The only other small negative, is that Neel Sethi (Mowgli), acting isn’t that great at times. But considering how young he is and the fact all the other characters are CGI, I think this can be over looked.

Overall, the live-action Jungle Book (2016) is a rather enjoyable film. It has the fun of the 1967 version, while still managing to set itself apart from that version. Granted it was a bit dark and creepy, at times and that King Louie would look at home in any horror movie. However, the film as a whole is good enough over look this, if you dislike the dark and creepy. Personally, I still prefer Disney’s 1967 version of The Jungle Book, but I would say that this live-action version is worth watching, especially it you’re a fan of The Jungle Book.

The Unique Blogger Award

unique-blogger-awardI think I may have finally caught up with my blog nominations. I feel bad for taking so long, but it truly couldn’t be helped and I apologise.

I was very touched to be nominated for the unique blogger award. I always try hard to be original and come up with post ideas, that I’ve never seen done before. I thought it was really sweet and kind, that two fellow bloggers would nominate me for this award. So, for that I’d like to thank them individually and of course answer their brilliant questions.

The Rules:

1: Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nomination you.

2: Answer the Questions.

3: In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.

4: Ask them three questions.

Rodrovich, thanks so much for thinking of me and giving me nomination. I really appreciate it. Your blog is awesome and I would highly recommend everyone go check it out.

Right, time to answer Rodrovich questions.

1- Which place would you most like to visit and why?

I’d love to visit North Canada, because I really want to see the northern lights. They look so magical in photos and it would be amazing to see in person.
Canada also seems really beautiful, so I’d love to explore it, for myself.

thumbnail_38536b92-2b96-405b-babb-1042774c68e62- How would you explain anime to one who has never seen any before?

With great pain (only joking, I’ll be serious).
I think the only way to explain anime, would be to sit the person down and show them some anime. Anime is too complex, to be explained in mere words.
But if I had to explain it in words, I’d probably start of by saying, anime is a very beautiful and unique style of animation, that can be a lot of fun. It can also be a very emotional experience. Having you laughing one minute and crying your little heart out, the next. (I wouldn’t mention Japan, to prevent bias).
I would then use one of my rubbish examples, to explain the feeling of watching good quality anime. That example being, “Watching a good anime is like, being given a box of super cute puppies. You’ll be super excited and just want to play with the puppies all day and never leave them.”

3- What are some of your favorite (or influential) albums?

Oh Glob, all my music is stored on electronic devices, so I don’t have a clue what you call my favourite albums. I just tap a picture and scroll down the playlist, until I see something I like.
I know, that’s so bad and doesn’t answer the question. So, instead I’ll give you a short list of my favourite artists and hopefully, it’ll give a feel of the music I’m into:
Sia, Hozier, Pink, Guns N’ Roses, Meat Loaf, Queen (those last three are really old, but have aged very well), My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots, Adele and a little bit of Johnny Cash.

thumbnail_ca65bb06-b218-4cf9-b3e1-2e030b653f96_1

Irina thanks so much for the nomination. Your blog is so much fun and I love your drinking games. I would also highly recommend everyone go check Irina’s blog out.

Right, question time.

1-I had a lot of fun with the FMK question (you can tell from all the whining). I use to adore this feature over on D talks anime. Which is your favorite blog feature/tag? Alternatively, tell us about one you’d like to start!

My favourite was the Five Flaming Hotties Tag. It was so much fun and I had a whale of a time, reading all of those.
But, what I liked most about that tag, was how everyone really got into it and nearly everyone participated. It was amazing and everyone work so hard on those post. Which just goes to show, how much fun that tag really was.

thumbnail_4e3f056a-d974-4e5a-8c41-22257dd7b9882- What do you want for Christmas? I’m just asking for a friend.

My weight in chocolate would be nice.
I’m a little fatty at Christmas and pretty much, spend the whole Christmas period thinking about food. Receiving my weight in chocolate would be a dream come true. I don’t really have a preference for the type of chocolate. Just as long as it isn’t Thornton’s (hate that chocolates. It just doesn’t taste right).
Don’t worry, if I do somehow receive my weight in chocolate, I’d share my chocolatey wealth.

3- What unusual IP would you like to see get adapted into anime?

The last question has really got me in the Christmas mood and now I really want to A Christmas Carol, adapted into an anime movie (if this already exist, please let me know. That would be so awesome).
This may be the Christmas spirit talking, but A Ghibli Christmas Carol just sounds spectacular. It would be so interesting, to see an anime version of Scrooge. I’d imagine they’d portray him, as a Howl (from Howl’s moving castle) type character and really exaggerate his meanness. The three spirits, would probably also get one hell of a makeover and look like the regular spirits on acid.
An Anime Christmas Carol would be amazing and because it’s anime, it could be made so much more magical and creative. I’d just love to see what an anime studio, would with this Christmas classic. They’d definitely give the muppets a run for their money anyway.

Nominations:

This is the scary part for me, choosing bloggers to nominate and hoping I don’t annoy anyone. Anywho, the Unique Blogger I’d like to nominate are:

The Otaku Judge

Pop Culture Literary

The Pantless Anime Blogger (TPAB)

Raistlin0903

Foodzesty

The Spooky Red Head

Mr. Bobinsky

924COLLECTIVE

My 3 Questions:

  1. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
  2. What is your all-time favourite movie?
  3. What is the weirdest thing you’ve put on a pizza? (I’m kind of hungry for pizza, at the minute)

They’re a bit random, but I hope they’re as fun as the questions I answered.

Please, don’t feel any pressure to do this award. I completely understand, if you prefer not to do these sorts of things.

If you’d like to answer any of these questions in the comments, go for it and fill your boots. I’d love to hear your answers.

Mademoiselle Noir, a Victim of Prejudice.

ec1d89a6-bcc2-42b1-991a-0fe123c1dcb0Mademoiselle Noir (Miss Black), her only crimes were living in a tower, having long black Rapunzel hair and repeating the same French phrases over and over again. Mistaking her for a demon and burning her to death, was a huge over reaction on those towns people’s behalf. They could have at least, ran tests to prove or disprove, her demon status, before they set her hair on fire. Prime example of why holding prejudice, is both idiotic and also dangerous.

Short post today, because it’s Father’s Day and I need to spend time with my Papa. Today’s post is digital art work inspired by a song/animation, I came across on YouTube, called Mademoiselle Noir: A Tragedy. It’s a very sad song, but has an important message about prejudice and judging people based on their appearance. Hence, why I thought it was worth a mention.

20170617_130441

Pencil drawing, I done for Orly. She said Mademoiselle Noir tower was too creepy, so made me draw her a Princess Tower.
