The Shop of Nightmares

I’m back posting again. To be honest I had this post ready to be published about 3 weeks ago, but then tragedy struck and I didn’t feel much like blogging (or anything in fact). To keep things short and from getting too depressing, I’ll try to explain how things went from enjoying the summer sunshine to absolute shock and misery, in as little words as I can. Out of nowhere my aunt dropped dead. She wasn’t sick or old or anything, she was only in her 50’s. She just collapsed one evening and died with no warnings. The day before she was babysitting her grandchildren and was very much alive, then the next day she was dead. It was just so sudden and out of the blue, no one seen it coming and left everyone in the family in a state of shock. It hard not to think like this, but its leaves you fearful that someone else might go so suddenly. On top of the shock of my aunt death, the Grim Reaper decided to be a complete a-hole and took my poor wee dog too. Granted my dog was 17 years old and it was bound to happen sooner or later, but for fring sake could death not have left my poor wee dog alone until we all got over the shock and grief of losing an auntie. I might start ranting so I’ll move on before I depress everyone.

Back to the post, before everything happened, I created this short little comic strip just for a bit laugh. It’s based on a few rather messed up trips to the 24hr supermarket I made a night. I’m not sure about anywhere else in the world but after 9pm the 24hr supermarket transforms into a hotspot for the weird and wacky. It’s pretty much a jungle in there, where all the creepiest and strangest people of the night, hide from harsh glow of the city’s neon lights. Laying in wait for someone to thoroughly creep out. Okay I might have got a little carried away there, maybe the people of the night aren’t like animals waiting to pounce, but they can be very strange. Which makes going to the 24hr supermarket when you’ve ran out of milk, bread or tea/coffee for the morning and have no option but to venture inside at night, that little more of a creepy experience. Anyway, for a bit of fun I’ve drawn a few of my strangest encounters with the late-night customers of the 24hr supermarket and made it into the shopping trip from hell. Hope you enjoy!thumbnail_EC88DA09-7A14-4FE6-921D-6A46670129D5thumbnail_DD869ABE-CB8D-4E1D-B6A0-0A042A4482ABthumbnail_58E2D403-93B6-4642-9B87-CBA948CF4558thumbnail_B24BFEF8-12EA-4A5D-A597-26D2C73D5F01

All I can say is thank god these supermarkets are well covered by CCTV and have security guards that take no nonsense. If you’ve ever had strange encounters with people in the 24hr supermarket or convenience store and would like to share, feel free to in the comments below.

As always, Thanks for reading!

A Rather Spooky Painting

Last time I painted a piece like this someone called it emo art (don’t worry it was just friendly banter and there was no nastiness meant by it), which really made me laugh. To be honest, I found this observation hilarious because it was very true. When I’m not making cute art, I’m creating dramatic spooky art. Some of the things I’ve painted, you could imagine an emo kid painting them while flicking their fringe back and listening to emo music. Strangely though, I’ve never been an emo and haven’t made any plans to become one (seems like a lot of work and would ruin my fall into the cupboard and wear whatever I fall into, approach to dressing). So, then what’s with the spooky looking painting below you ask?

thumbnail_20181214_132540For some reason when I paint from the heart this happens. A rather dramatic spooky looking piece of art that usually features dark colours, is created (I’ll add a few other examples of this at the end). I’m not exactly sure why this art style developed, but I think it’s partly to do with preferring darker colours and liking the way red and black looks together (maybe it’s just my inner emo shining through).

Getting back to explaining this latest spooky painting. In a nutshell, the stress of this time of year was getting to me, so I sat down to unwind by doing a bit of painting and the black paint started calling to me. It was saying “Nellsbert Kelleeic the first (not my actual name) use me and embrace the emo-ness within. Also take my friend red and use them well. Black paint alone to not enough to achieve the true emo look”. So, I listened and took the black and red paint (as well as the blue and white) and painted my little heart out. I switched black and red paint here, there and everywhere until finally I looked down and before me appeared a painting of a woman and a red eye shadow monster.

Okay that might be a little exaggerated, what actually happen was I seen the black paint and took a liking to it and thought red would go well with it. Then in true stressed out bunny fashion, I assumed the “need sleep” position, with one arm and head laying across the table and with the other arm, I painted whatever came to mind. In the process ruining my paint palette with black paint (which was formerly my dinner plate, until it was cracked and chipped by me dropping it), that is hell to get off. Oops!

thumbnail_20181214_142238But don’t worry, after an overnight soaking in bubbly water and a hell of a lot of scrubbing, I restored it to its former cracked and chipped beauty. Best darn paint palette I ever owned!

thumbnail_20181214_142424Hope you enjoyed this post and its mildly darker art style and

The Spooky Drawing Tag

With Halloween just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to get a little spooky tag going (since I didn’t do a horror movie reviews series like last year). Halloween is all about the scares, the spooks and creatures of the night, so the idea for this tag is to create a personalised scary drawing. That might sound confusing but stick with me, I’ve made it incredibly easy. So easy in fact that it only has 3 rules. Let’s have a look these rules.

Rules:
1.- Draw the thing(s) you personally find scary or spooky (no explanation needed)
2.- Wish everyone a happy Halloween
3.- Encourage others to join in the fun

My hopes for this tag is that by the end, everyone will have their very own unique spooky Halloween picture. Don’t worry if you feel you can’t draw, it’s only a bit of fun. We’re all friendly here and no one will be mean about your drawing ability.

So, here is my spooky Halloween drawing filled with the things I find scary.

thumbnail_20181013_233043Petrified of snakes, freaked out by big head mascots and terrified of clowns (I think it’s the horribly applied lipstick). I also included myself because my overactive imagination spooks me out a lot. When something goes bump in the night, my mind goes straight to poltergeist, missing all logical explanations and leaving myself thoroughly spooked out.

Encouraging others to join in the fun:
I’ve opted not to have nominations in this tag, to keep it fun and take away some of the pressure that can come with tags. Instead I will leave the tag open to everyone who wants to take part. Don’t worry if you can’t draw, it’s only a bit of fun and stick people art is awesome. So, you can always draw some spooky stick ghouls, if needs be (that would actually look pretty cool). I hope you all give the tag a go and have fun with it.

Hope you enjoyed and…
